On December 29, 2014 - as of the release date, six months ago - I married my first and only sweetheart of almost six years, Hayley. My musical endeavours as Summertime's End began in earnest with The Art Of Succinct Compliments and Your Sunrise, two songs I wrote in 2010 as a birthday present for Hayley, thinking they would be a one-off gift. Since then I had written two albums, mostly inspired by her. But I knew that our wedding had to be something special, and so well before I had even started dreaming up our dream proposal (which was a wonderful story that you can read about at summertimesend.tumblr.com/post/93063566307/ourdreamproposal), I started writing a song for our wedding.

It took me a long time to finish - in fact, the version you hear today is even slightly more refined than that which played on the day - but I achieved my goal of creating something extra special for our wedding. The lyrics (backing vocals in the bridge and the choruses) are my wedding vows, word-for-word; Hayley walked down the aisle just as the first instrumental break played, and the outro played after our first kiss as husband and wife; and I also performed the song for Hayley in front of all our guests at the reception. But the icing on the cake was the filming of a music video for this song using the actual footage from our wedding. The end result is a beautiful memento of the most special day of our lives, and one that I am overjoyed to share with you.

lyrics

It wouldn't be completely true to say the day that I met you that I knew right then it was love at first sight. A boy and girl so much the same, the best of friends we soon became, but never sure if it felt quite right. A brief embrace, an awkward kiss. I hadn't known that love was this unnatural, or so it seemed. But over time I found it's not a thing you find; instead it's bought, and we've earned it. And I've learned what love means.

So see these hands, because they never held any others. And feel this heart, because it never belonged to another. And hear these words, because I've never said anything so true. I vow that I will love you now, so evermore, I do.

The day we met I’d no idea the Lord would bring us these six years from boy and girl to man and wife. So as was done for me by Christ I give myself in sacrifice. Be yours this heart, be yours this life.

So see these hands, because they never held any others. And feel this heart, because it never belonged to another. And hear these words, because I've never said anything so true. I vow that I will love you now,

So evermore I'll be there with you, hold you, kiss you, love you, and I swear as every morning comes I'll always love you just the way I do right now.

I take you for better or for worse, I take you in blessing or in curse. To cherish and love with all my heart, to have and to hold from this day forward. I take you in poverty or wealth, I take you in sickness or in health, until the day death us do part.

So see these hands, because they never held any others. And feel this heart, because it never belonged to another. And hear these words, because I've never said anything so true. I vow that I will love you now, so evermore, I do.
