More Beautiful Than You Believe

from by Summertime's End

This song is a fictional story about a very non-fictional situation that many, many girls experience throughout the world. I know one such girl, and this song describes the story of my disbelief at how a truly beautiful girl can have her self-esteem ripped apart by the turmoil of the life she lives, and how I desperately would love to help her put it back together and for her to realise how special she is, both to me and to God. This song, however, is not just dedicated to this particular girl, but every girl who believes that they aren't beautiful, aren't special, or aren't loved. Every girl was made in the image of God. Sometimes I just wish some girls knew that.

She looks into the mirror
And sighs at what she sees
As she asks herself
Could anybody possibly love me

Her parents in the kitchen
Are fighting once again
So she dives under the bed covers
And wishes for a friend

How could a girl so beautiful
Look at herself and not know it at all?

She locks herself away
Self-detained in prison cells
And she looks over the balcony
Wondering who'd care if she fell

But as she jumps I catch her
I save her sinking heart
And gradually I'll teach her how to find a brand new start

How could a girl so beautiful
Look at herself and not know it at all?
And how could someone loved so much in God's eyes
Look at themselves and not realise that

You are more beautiful than you believe
You sparkle more than what this dark world sees
So when it feels like things are just too much to bear
Don't despair
I love you and we'll get there
